Tension Between Mexico and US Over Zambada's Arrest

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed her stance during the morning conference in response to the U.S. ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar. Sheinbaum pointed out that "the end does not justify the means" regarding the capture of the alleged drug trafficker 'El Mayo' Zambada. This comes after Salazar expressed surprise at the demands for explanations on how the capture occurred instead of celebrating the event itself.

Sheinbaum emphasized the importance of respecting human rights, the rule of law, and sovereignty, highlighting that the way actions are carried out is also relevant, not just the final outcome. Tensions between the United States and Mexico continue following Zambada's detention, who was apparently transferred to the United States on a plane by another criminal leader without the knowledge of Mexican authorities.

During the morning conference, Mexico's Attorney General, Alejandro Gertz, described Zambada's detention as a "kidnapping" and expressed his concern over the lack of information provided by the United States regarding the matter. Ambassador Salazar, for his part, later denied these claims in a press conference.

The detention of Zambada, leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, has triggered a wave of violence in the state of Sinaloa, with a significant rise in murders and shootings since August. President Sheinbaum insists on the importance of respecting processes and institutions as much as results, stating that the manner in which actions are carried out is fundamental.
